We all strive to better ourselves each year so why not apply the idea to the chicken flock this year.

What breed shall we raise? Let's consider the purpose for which we are raising them. If our primary purpose is the production of eggs at the lowest cost, we will do well to stick by the light breeds (leghorns, minorcas, etc.). The difference in the cost of feed to get a dozen eggs amounts to several cents and this can be a large item over a period of time. With a big flock the difference may depend on showing a profit or loss when eggs are cheap and cost of feed high....
