Hit-and-Run Driver Is Given 15 Years

Howard R. Sullins, 21-year-old Lebanon painter, Friday in No. 2 Criminal Court was found guilty of charges of an assault with intent to commit murder in the first degree on Mrs. Gladys Newman, of the Hermitage community, and was sentenced to serve 15 years in the state penitentiary.

The assault occurred September 30 when Sullins drove a truck into Mrs. Newman as she was returning to her home on Brandau Road after a trip to the mail box. Mrs. Newman was rushed to a hospital where she gave birth to a child prematurely as a result of the assault....
