  • Miss Mary Ann Sanders, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Sanders, became the bride of James Richard Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Francis Martin, of Nashville, this morning at St. Mary’s Church. The Rt. Reverend Monsignor John F. Hardeman performed the ceremony at 9 o’clock, following a musical program given by Miss Marie Hayes, organist, and Miss Mary Ann Jacobs, vocalist.
  • The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Russell Anthony Sanders….
  • The couple will motor South for a wedding trip, and upon their return will be at home temporarily with his parents on Woodland Street.
  • The bride received her education at St. Cecelia Academy. The groom isa a graduate of Father Ryan High School and served three years in the European Theatre of Operations. He is employed at Foster & Creighton Company.
  • Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Culp, Mrs. Minnie Read, and Mrs. Robert Byrn and children returned recently from a 10-day stay at Inverness and Panama City, Florida.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Coen C. Cloyd and children, Tommy and Betty, left the latter part of last week for a two-week vacation at Daytona Beach.

  • Gordon Combs and Herbert Helms left today to drive to New Jersey for a week’s stay. Mrs. Combs and Mrs. Helms have been visiting in Wharton and Seaside Heights, New Jersey, this month and will return with them.
  • Mrs. Jon L. Blume and son, Jackie, returned recently from an extended visit with her mother, Mrs. W. A. Cramer, in Waussau, Wisconsin. Her brother-in-law, Walter Blume, returned with them and will enter Father Ryan this fall.
  • Mr. and Mrs. George F. Davis and children, Frater, Philip, and Michael, are spending several days in Murfreesboro with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Davis, during which time the men plan a hunting trip to East Tennessee near Knoxville.

Mrs. J. C. Blessing entertained John W. Thomas Division No. 532 GIA to BofLE on the lawn of her home on Lebanon Road Tuesday. The 20 guests present enjoyed a picnic lunch, which was highlighted by homemade fresh peach ice cream and cookies, the hostess’ specialty. Several games were played. Brother Ed Carter and Mrs. Fisk were honor guests.

ROGULSKI-HARVEY RITES HELD ON AUGUST 19

Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Goodwin, of Pleasant Hill, announce the marriage of their daughter, Frances Goodwin Rogulski, to Walter Harvey, of Bridgeton, New Jersey. The wedding was solemnized on August 19 in Franklin, Kentucky. The couple will make their home in Bridgeton.

BRENT-WILLIAMS RITES SOLEMNIZED FRIDAY

The Donelson Baptist Church was the scene Friday evening of the marriage of Miss Frances Elaine Brent, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles William Brent, to Frederick Arthur Williams, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Tedford Lane, of Alton, Illinois. The double-ring ceremony was performed at 8 o’clock by Rev. Fred Tarpley, pastor of the church, in the presence of a large guest assemblage….

Gown of Japanese Silk

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was attired in an exquisite bridal gown of white silk, material of which was brought from Japan by the bridegroom….

Later in the evening the bridal couple left for a southern wedding tour to places of intrest in Florida and New Orleans. For traveling, the bride chose an aqua wool crepe suit and black accessories.

The couple will be at home after September 15 in Champaign, Illinois….

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR CHARLES SHEPARD

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Charles Shepard, 58, at the Leon Pirtle home in Hermitage, with Rev. C. D. Creasman officiating. Burial followed in the Stephens Family Cemetery in Hrmitage. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Daisy Lee Shepard, of Nashville; three daughters: Frances and Cora Shepard, of Nashville, and Mary Lee Shepard, of Hermitage; and six sons: Carl Shepard, of Nashville, Charlie, ben, Ray, Frank and George Shepard, all of Hermitage; and one brother, Ben Shepard, of Antioch.

  • An early morning fire, of undetermined origin destroyed the house where Namon B. Davis and family lived. The home was the Baptist parsonage, due to circumstances, not used by the minister of the Baptist Church. The Davis family lost practically anything.
  • Antioch Grammar and High Schools opened Tuesday and Wednesday for enrollment.
  • Miss Orpha Stein from Black Falls, Wisconsin, has been visiting here. Yesterday she was the dinner guest of Miss Helen Frieda Turner. She and Mr. H. K. Lane had breakfast with a group of young people at Shelby Park, given by Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hessey.
