Mr. and Mrs. R. Walker smith announce the engagement of their daughter, Alice Louise, to Robert Lochhead, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Arnott, of Brooklyn , N. Y. The wedding is set for Sunday afternoon, April 27 at 4 o'clock at the Andrew Price Memorial Methodist Church....


At 7 o'clock Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. John Omohundro, Jr., were hosts at a buffet bridge at their home on Bluefield Avenue. The affair was given to honor Miss Frances Bibb and Homer Barnes, of Nashville, whose wedding will be an April event....

Mr. and Mrs. Odell Balls, Jr., were Saturday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rutherford at "Ruddy Acres" on McGavock Road.

Miss Louise Gochenbach and her mother, Mrs. H. J. Gochenbach, of Nashville, were guests Sunday afternoon at the A. D. Albright home on Bluefield Avenue.

A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Kennedy, of Old Lebanon Road, in St. Thomas Hospital Sunday night. Both the baby and Mrs. Kennedy are reported to be doing fine.

Pfc. Herndon Hardy, who is stationed at Bowling Field, Washington, D. C., was home recently to spend a weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Hardy, on Lebanon Road.

Mr.and Mrs. Charlie Bates (formerly Lucy Gentry) recently spent a weekend in Monteagle. (They made movies of Sewanee and several other points of interest.)

Radio Station WLAC will, beginning at 5 a.m. on sunday, carry six nation-wide broadcasts featurning special Easter services.

Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Cloyd plan to spend Easter with their son, Mr. and Mrs. James B. cloyd, at Murfreesboro.

Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hargrove and Sibyl are now settled in their new home at 4013 Wallace Lane. Sibyl has a new baby sister, Lucy Reed, born March 2 at St. Thomas.

  • Mrs. Hermena Herterger, Mrs. Stumpf's mother, left saturday morning for New York City to attend the confirmation of her grandchildren.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schmidt and Eddie, Jr., arrived in New York City Saturday night. Mr. Schmidt has been trasferred in his work at Berry Field to the airport there.
  • Johnny Verne will leave this week for New York City where he has been assigned in the Air Force.

  • Elm Hill's "Mr. Fixit" is perturbed over the hazardous parking condition at the corner of McGavock Lane and Lebanon Road. Several accidents, some serious, have occurred at this corner and many are due to careless parking which obscures a full view of the road. We'd suggest more motorists park on McGavock Lane, not Lebanon Road.
  • The Whites have sold their home to Mr. and Mrs. Atkinson. We are glad to welcome the new residents to our community.
